Tour Overview
5-Day Istanbul and Ephesus Faith Tour: House of the Virgin Mary and Biblical Sites
This 5-day Istanbul and Ephesus faith tour starts in Istanbul and follows early Christian heritage across four nights: two in Sultanahmet, then two in Kuşadası on the Aegean coast after a domestic flight to İzmir. It has two guided days, one in Istanbul and one around Ephesus.
In Istanbul you see Hagia Sophia, known for its Byzantine mosaics, the Hippodrome and the Blue Mosque; the private option adds the Basilica Cistern, the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Church of St. George in Fener, and Balat. At Ephesus you visit the House of the Virgin Mary, the Great Theatre where St. Paul preached and the Temple of Artemis; the private option adds the Basilica of St. John and a Bible-oriented guide.
It suits pilgrims, church groups and families. Choose a shared tour with lunch included or a private tour with your own vehicle and guide. The price includes 4★ hotels (or similar) with breakfast, domestic flights, airport transfers and the Ephesus and House of the Virgin Mary entrances; Istanbul museum fees are paid on-site. After you land at Istanbul Airport, an English-speaking assistant takes you to a private car for the transfer to your 4★ boutique hotel in Sultanahmet (or similar), which takes roughly 45 to 90 minutes. The evening is free. Because tomorrow follows the Byzantine story, you may like to walk to the edge of Sultanahmet Square and look at Hagia Sophia from the outside, then have a simple dinner nearby, which is not included. Rest well, because the next day is a full day of sightseeing.

Places Along the Route
.jpg)
Hagia Sophia
Justinian completed this cathedral in 537 as the main church of the Byzantine Empire. Its golden mosaics, including the Virgin and Child, keep the Christian history of Constantinople visible beneath the later Ottoman additions.
.jpg)
Blue Mosque
Facing Hagia Sophia across the square, this early 17th-century mosque shows how Ottoman architects answered the Byzantine church with their own domes and minarets. Blue İznik tiles cover much of the interior.
.jpg)
Hippodrome
Constantinople's chariot-racing stadium was also where the city gathered for imperial ceremonies and festivals. The Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column and the German Fountain now stand along the line of the old track.
.jpg)
Topkapı Palace
Home of the Ottoman sultans from the 1460s, the palace is now a museum of imperial treasures, kitchens and pavilions. It offers the Ottoman counterpart to the Byzantine sites seen earlier in the day.

Basilica Cistern
Built by Justinian in the 6th century to store water for the Great Palace, this underground hall rests on 336 columns. On the private option you descend into its dim, atmospheric forest of marble.
.jpg)
House of the Virgin Mary
A small stone chapel on Bülbül Mountain, long venerated as the place where Mary is believed to have spent her last years. Several popes have visited, and Christians and Muslims alike light candles here.
.jpg)
Ephesus Ancient City
In the 1st century Ephesus was a major Roman port, and according to the Book of Acts the apostle Paul lived and taught here for some years. Its excavated streets, baths and monuments make that world tangible.

Library of Celsus
A 2nd-century memorial library built for the governor Celsus, its restored two-storey facade is the monument most visitors recognise in Ephesus. The niches hold statues of wisdom, knowledge, thought and virtue.
Ecumenical Patriarchate
Since the early 1600s the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Fener has been the seat of the Orthodox Christian spiritual leader, with the Church of St. George as its cathedral. The visit adds a living Christian community to the Byzantine story.
Great Theatre
Tradition places the preaching of St. Paul in this theatre, which seated about 25,000 people. On the private option your Bible-oriented guide reads the relevant passage from the Book of Acts on the spot.
Temple of Artemis
Once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the temple made Ephesus a centre of the cult of Artemis, the world the early apostles met. Today one reconstructed column near Selçuk marks the site.
Basilica of St. John
Tradition says the apostle John is buried on Ayasuluk Hill in Selçuk, where Justinian raised a great basilica in the 6th century. The ruins and the tomb marker are a quiet counterpart to busy Ephesus.

Best Time for the Istanbul & Ephesus Faith Tour
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the most comfortable seasons for this tour: mild temperatures suit a full day of walking through the Old City and the open-air ruins of Ephesus, which has little shade. Summer is hot at Ephesus, so an early start, a hat and water help. Winter is cooler and quieter. The Grand Bazaar is closed on Sundays and Topkapı Palace on Tuesdays.

Good to Know
Hagia Sophia and Closing Days
Hagia Sophia is a working mosque, so visits are limited at prayer times and around Friday midday. On the shared option, Topkapı Palace is closed on Tuesdays and the Grand Bazaar on Sundays.
House of the Virgin Mary
The way up to the chapel is a short uphill walk, and photos are not allowed inside the chapel.
Summer Heat at Ephesus
Ephesus has almost no shade. In summer bring a hat, sunscreen and water, and wear flat, non-slip shoes for the marble street.
Baggage on Domestic Flights
Domestic flights allow about 15 kg of checked baggage plus 8 kg of cabin baggage per person; the exact allowance depends on the airline and can change. We recommend packing a small overnight bag for flight days.
Pick-up Times
Your exact pick-up time is confirmed with you the day before each tour.
Hotel Check-in & Check-out
Standard hotel check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is until 12:00. Early check-in or late check-out depends on availability; ask us and we will request it.
Dietary Requirements
Halal and vegetarian options are available. Please tell us about any dietary needs when you book.
