Visiting Ephesus with Family: Best Time, Tips & Kid-Friendly Plan
Ephesus is far more than ruins: for children it is a real-life adventure through a Roman city, complete with a giant theatre, ancient public toilets and the famous cats that live among the columns. With the right timing and a little planning, it is one of the most rewarding family days in Türkiye.
Best Time to Visit with Children
| Season | Weather | Our verdict |
|---|---|---|
| April–May | 20–28°C, green hills | ⭐ Best |
| June | 28–33°C | Good, if you start early |
| July–August | Often 35°C+ with little shade | Hard with young children |
| September–October | 25–30°C, warm sea | ⭐ Best |
| November–March | 10–18°C, occasional rain | Quiet and pleasant |
Tip: Gulf school holidays often fall in spring and early summer. Late March, April and October to mid-November give you the most comfortable conditions.
Entry for Children
- Children under 8 generally enter Ephesus free with a passport. Always bring the children's passports.
- From age 8, children pay the adult ticket price.
- Strollers can be used on the main route, but the marble is uneven. A baby carrier is much easier.
What to Pack
- Comfortable shoes with good grip, because the marble is slippery
- Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen
- At least 1 litre of water per person, plus snacks
- A light scarf or cover-up for the House of the Virgin Mary
- A small towel or wet wipes
Halal Food and Prayer
- Halal food is the norm in the region. Turkish kebabs, köfte, pide and fresh salads are easy to find, and the lunch on our guided Ephesus tour is a buffet.
- The İsa Bey Mosque (built in 1375) is just a few minutes from Ephesus in Selçuk. It is a beautiful place to pray, and there are many mosques in Kuşadası too.
- The House of the Virgin Mary is honoured by Muslims as well as Christians, because Maryam is respected in Islam. Many families find it a meaningful stop.

- Spot the ancient Roman public toilets, a guaranteed favourite with children
- Say hello to the friendly Ephesus cats
13:00 – Lunch break with plenty of choice for fussy eaters.
14:30 – Temple of Artemis. A quick, free stop at one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
16:00 – Back at the hotel for a swim or a seaside walk in Kuşadası.
Why Stay in Kuşadası?
Kuşadası has a long seafront promenade, family-friendly hotels with pools, an easy town centre and safe beaches. It is about 25 minutes from Ephesus. Children get beach time and adults get history, all in one trip.
