Safranbolu is a UNESCO-listed town of preserved Ottoman konaks, and Amasra is a fishing port on a double harbour, a good pairing for a private road trip with your own driver and guide. In the east, Trabzon is the base for the mountain valleys, lakes and highland villages around Uzungöl, reached by a short flight from Istanbul.
