This 4-day Safranbolu and Amasra tour (3 nights) starts with a private pick-up from your Istanbul hotel and returns you there on Day 4. The drive is about 4.5–5 hours each way; you spend two nights in Safranbolu and one in Amasra.
You walk the cobbled Çarşı quarter and Cinci Han, step inside the Kaymakamlar Museum House, visit Yörük Village, cross to the İncekaya Aqueduct and glass terrace at Tokatlı Canyon, then follow the road north to Amasra Castle, Kemere Bridge and the twin harbours. A night in an Ottoman mansion hotel inside the UNESCO-listed old town is a highlight of the trip.

Day 1Istanbul to Safranbolu & Çarşı Walk
Your private driver collects you from your Istanbul hotel in the morning for the scenic drive east to Safranbolu, about 4.5 to 5 hours with rest and lunch stops (lunch is at your own expense). You check in at a boutique or Ottoman mansion hotel in the old town, then your guide leads a late-afternoon walk through the Çarşı quarter: Cinci Han, a 17th-century caravanserai, the cobbled bazaar streets and the coppersmiths’ shops. Before the day ends you climb Hıdırlık Hill for the sunset over the red-tiled rooftops of the UNESCO-listed town.

Day 2Kaymakamlar House, Yörük Village & Tokatlı Canyon
With your guide and your own vehicle you start at the Kaymakamlar Museum House, a 19th-century Ottoman mansion that you can walk through room by room. From there you continue to Yörük Village, a hamlet of timber houses that has kept its old look. Around midday you reach Tokatlı Canyon, where you walk to the Ottoman-era İncekaya Aqueduct and out onto the glass terrace that hangs over the gorge. The afternoon is spent back in the old town with a tasting of lokum (Turkish delight) and saffron, two local specialities. The evening is at leisure.

Day 3Safranbolu to Amasra: Castle & Twin Harbours
After breakfast and check-out you drive north to the Black Sea coast, about 1.5 to 2 hours, with a photo stop at the historic riverside houses of Bartın. Amasra is a small port town on a rocky peninsula, and you spend the day on it: Amasra Castle above the water, the Kemere Bridge, and a walk around the town’s twin harbours. Late in the day you go up to the Boztepe viewpoint to watch the sun set over the sea, then settle into your hotel in Amasra.

Day 4Amasra Harbour & Return to Istanbul
After breakfast you take a last stroll along the harbour and through the local market, where handcarved wooden souvenirs and Amasra salad are the things to look for. Your private vehicle then takes you back to Istanbul, about 5 to 5.5 hours with a lunch stop (own expense), and your guide stays with you to the end of the trip. You are dropped off at your Istanbul hotel in the evening, so you do not need to arrange onward transport from a bus station or an airport.

Places Along the Route
Safranbolu Çarşı
The market quarter of the old town, where cobbled lanes run between craft shops selling copper, leather, lokum and saffron. It grew up around the caravan trade, and many workshops still occupy the old stone-and-timber buildings.
Amasra Castle
Byzantine and Genoese walls enclose the rocky headland on which old Amasra stands. Gates and ramparts still run along the water’s edge, and the lanes inside pass small mosques and stone houses.
Kemere Bridge
A stone arch bridge over the narrow channel at the neck of the peninsula, with the sea running beneath it. Crossing it links the two sides of the old town, and it is a favourite photo spot.
Amasra Twin Harbours
Amasra sits between two bays on a peninsula only a few streets wide. Boats shelter in one bay, while the other opens onto a sandy beach.
Cinci Han
A caravanserai of the 17th century in the heart of the bazaar, with a stone-walled courtyard and rooms on an upper floor. Merchants once kept animals below and slept above; today it serves as a hotel and cafe.
Hıdırlık Hill
A hilltop park above the old town that gives the classic view of Safranbolu: red-tiled roofs, domes and minarets, glowing orange as the sun goes down.
Kaymakamlar Museum House
A well-kept 19th-century Ottoman mansion that once housed district governors, the kaymakams. Carved wooden ceilings, furnished rooms and figures in period dress show how a wealthy Safranbolu family lived.
Yörük Village
A small village outside the town where timber houses and stone lanes have changed little over the years. Its name comes from the semi-nomadic Yörük families, and it offers a quiet walk away from the bazaar crowds.
Tokatlı Canyon
A limestone gorge near Safranbolu with a footpath and a glass terrace above the drop. The nearby İncekaya Aqueduct, an Ottoman-era stone arch across the canyon, was built to bring water to the town.
Boztepe Viewpoint
A lookout on the hill above Amasra with a wide view over the peninsula, both bays and the open Black Sea. Evening is when the light over the water is softest.

Best Time to Visit Safranbolu
Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are the ideal seasons for this Safranbolu and Amasra tour: mild temperatures make the cobbled lanes and canyon walks comfortable, and the old town is at its most photogenic.
