Hot Air Balloon in Cappadocia (Optional)
A sunrise hot air balloon flight over Cappadocia's fairy chimneys and valleys is one of the most memorable experiences in Turkey, but it is optional and not included in the base price of this tour. It can be added for +$180 per person. Balloon flights are weather-dependent: the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority can cancel a flight for safety reasons, in which case the fee is fully refunded. Because this itinerary includes 2 nights in Cappadocia, guests get a second morning to fly if the first one is cancelled due to weather.
Best Time to Visit Istanbul and Cappadocia
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best months to visit both cities: temperatures are mild for walking around Istanbul's historic sites, and Cappadocia typically has calm, clear mornings that are ideal for hot air ballooning. Summer (July and August) is hot and crowded, especially in Cappadocia, where midday sightseeing can be tiring. Winter brings a real chance of snow in Cappadocia, which makes for dramatic photos over the fairy chimneys and comes with lower prices, but balloon flights are cancelled more often due to weather at this time of year. Whenever you travel, staying at least 2 nights in Cappadocia — as this tour does — gives you a second sunrise chance to fly if your first morning is weathered out.
