Tour Overview

3-Night Baku Tour: Old City, Heydar Aliyev Center, Gobustan & the Fire Temples

This 3-night, 4-day Baku tour starts at Heydar Aliyev Airport, where our representative meets you and takes you by private transfer to your hotel. It shows you the Caspian capital in a relaxed order: an evening drive on day one, the city on day two and a full excursion day on day three.

On day two you walk through the Old City (Icherisheher) to the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, look over the skyline from Highland Park and visit Zaha Hadid’s Heydar Aliyev Center. Day three heads south to the Gobustan rock carvings and mud volcanoes, then to the Ateshgah Fire Temple and Yanardag, a hillside where natural gas flames burn continuously.

The tour suits couples, culture lovers and first-time visitors to Azerbaijan who want a guided programme with nothing to organise. It includes three nights in a 4★ hotel (or similar) with daily breakfast, airport meet and greet with transfers, an English-Turkish speaking guide and vehicle for the sightseeing; international flights are not included and museum entrances are paid on site. Planning a longer trip? See our 6-night Baku and Tbilisi tour or all Caucasus and Russia tour packages.

Places Along the Route

Flame Towers, Baku — Baku Tour – 3 Nights, Old City & Gobustan

Flame Towers

BakuDay 1Free

Three curved glass towers covered in LED screens turn the Baku skyline into a moving flame after dark. They stand on a hill above the bay and can be seen from almost every part of the city.

Icherisheher (Old City), Baku — Baku Tour – 3 Nights, Old City & Gobustan

Icherisheher (Old City)

BakuDay 2Free

The walled medieval core of Baku, listed by UNESCO, is a maze of stone lanes, small mosques, caravanserais and courtyards. It is the best place to feel the older layer of the city before the modern districts.

Gobustan, Gobustan — Baku Tour – 3 Nights, Old City & Gobustan

Gobustan

GobustanDay 3Payable on-site

A UNESCO-listed reserve south of Baku where thousands of rock engravings show hunters, animals and boats. Nearby, small mud volcanoes push up cold grey mud, a landscape quite unlike the city.

Ateshgah Fire Temple, Absheron Peninsula — Baku Tour – 3 Nights, Old City & Gobustan

Ateshgah Fire Temple

Absheron PeninsulaDay 3Payable on-site

A pentagonal temple built like a caravanserai around a central altar, visited in past centuries by Zoroastrian and Hindu worshippers. A flame still burns in the courtyard, and the cells around it hold small exhibits.

Yanardag (Burning Mountain), Absheron Peninsula — Baku Tour – 3 Nights, Old City & Gobustan

Yanardag (Burning Mountain)

Absheron PeninsulaDay 3Payable on-site

A hillside on the Absheron Peninsula where natural gas escapes through the rock and burns in a low wall of flame all year. It is a simple, striking reminder of why Azerbaijan is called the Land of Fire.

Maiden Tower

BakuDay 2Payable on-site

A cylindrical stone tower from around the 12th century that rises above the Old City walls. Its origins are still debated and several legends are told about it; the upper floors give a view over the rooftops and the bay.

Palace of the Shirvanshahs

BakuDay 2Payable on-site

A 15th-century complex of the Shirvan rulers, with a palace, mausoleum, mosque and bathhouse set around quiet courtyards. The pale limestone façades carry fine carved details and show the medieval court architecture of the region.

Highland Park

BakuDay 2Free

A hilltop park above the city centre that serves as a viewpoint over the whole bay. From the terrace the Flame Towers, the harbour and the rooftops spread out below in a single frame.

Heydar Aliyev Center

BakuDay 2Payable on-site

Zaha Hadid’s cultural centre, opened in 2012, rises from the plaza in one white curve with no visible corners. Inside, exhibition halls and an auditorium carry the same fluid lines through the building.

Green Bazaar

BakuDay 4Free

A busy city market piled with saffron, spices, dried fruit, nuts and sweets. A good place for last-minute gifts and for tasting what Azerbaijani kitchens use every day, with sellers usually happy to let you sample.
